Torres is a Colombian ceramic artist whose practice has evolved over the past eight years. He began working with ceramics in Colombia, focusing on utilitarian objects that he exhibited at national craft fairs before establishing his own studio, where he worked for two years. In 2024, he moved to Denmark to further his artistic practice. He is currently a production potter at Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center, alongside developing his own body of work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHis current practice centres on the potter’s wheel as a tool for exploration, with a particular interest in high-temperature wood firing and the possibilities that emerge through the process. His work is guided by two interconnected motivations.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe first is the object. He explores utilitarian forms through an ongoing engagement with technique, function and aesthetics, seeking a balance between practical qualities and visual presence. Teapots hold particular significance within this practice, offering a space to continually investigate and refine the relationship between form, function and technique.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe second motivation comes from looking at these forms with a different intention.\u003cbr\u003eForms and elements that emerge through the making of utilitarian objects begin to take\u003cbr\u003eon a more personal and sculptural meaning. The fish emerged from this process, bringing\u003cbr\u003etogether forms developed through technique with elements connected to his past in\u003cbr\u003eColombia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe fish develop through a tension between spontaneity and a continuously evolving technique. Many emerge directly from the potter’s wheel, shaped by the forms and possibilities that arise through the process. Some retain the delicate traces of the wheel, with lines left visible on the surface becoming part of the identity of each piece.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRather than simply extending his utilitarian practice, the fish offer another way of engaging with the forms discovered through making. Freed from the requirements of function, they become a space for personal expression, memory and a connection to his Colombian past.
