Barley tea (mugicha) is an old tradition in Japan when you need a relaxing hot drink.

This mugi-cha is from Hida, located in Gifu, produced by “Nabeshimameicha”, a long-established tea company with a history of over 100 years.
The quality of Hida Barley Tea is rooted in the carefully cultivated barley grown by Mr. Tanaka, one of their trusted farmers.
Farmers often face challenges due to unfair pricing. At Nabeshimameicha, they ensure fair transactions by purchasing the high-quality barley from award-winning farmers, such as those who have received the Japan Agricultural Award, at a fair price and in predetermined quantities. Through this initiative, we believe we are also contributing to the preservation of Japan’s food culture.

Hida mugi-cha is an exquisite barley tea, as the producer has a long tradition of making this tea with the utmost care. The barley kernels overwinter in the snow, where the kernels ripen and this enhances the sweetness in the kernels. Hida mugi-cha also has a popular aroma attributed to the unique sand-roasting process it undergoes to create the final product.

Usually the barley kernels are roasted in a pan, but Hida mugi-cha undergoes a traditional sand-roasting, which is a more careful process.
The barley kernels are roasted slowly in drums with sand, which gives the tea a rich aroma and fragrance and a beautiful golden color.

Mugi cha comes in a 100 g bag.

Ingredients: barley.
