William is a potter who has been working with clay for four years, attracted to the quiet canvas of the applied art. His inspiration has several sources - Asian as well as Western pottery traditions - each offering its own understanding of form, weight and use.
"I am particularly interested in how objects interact with everyday life, how they feel in hands, and how the traditions associated with them bring people together. "
His interest in traditional ceramics led William to Bornholm. Here he has had the privilege of interning with Anne Mette Hortshoj, an experience that has given a new understanding of materials, firewood processes and the rhythm of a working ceramics workshop. He is deeply grateful to have gained insight into Anne Mette's wonderful universe of wild clay and natural glazes, which make up the main part of his first exhibition at Sing. A hope for the future is to build your own furnace. The time on Bornholm convinced him that even short burns are worth the trouble.
"There is something almost spiritual about working with a wood-fired stove... Leaving the final expression to ashes and flames is a gift and an eternal challenge. "
